Tim and I stopped in Amarillo on our way to Colorado, staying with his old friend, Gary. Gary invited us to watch a few innings of softball before going to dinner. He plays in a senior softball league where every Tuesday night from late Spring through early Fall, men aged 50 and older get together and play ball.

Want to have a successful surgery? Prepare for it.
Most people don’t do much to prepare themselves for surgery beyond following the basic preop instructions they receive. Many patients don’t realize that preparing themselves for surgery can significantly impact how well and quickly they recover. So what can patients do to prepare themselves for surgery, and how will this preparation improve their outcome, healing, and recovery?

I’m not in control, and I’m okay with that
On a scale of 1 to 10, how much control do you believe you have over your life? My answer to this question varies depending on the day and the circumstance, but on average, I’m at three on the 1 to 10 scale. Why so low? Because I believe outside forces significantly outweigh the impact my choices and behavior have over my life. We humans live with a false sense of control over our lives. But wait! Before you label me fatalistic, hear me out.
