The Spiritual Domain
The spiritual domain is highly individual and personal. Spiritual wellness may include but is not limited to religious beliefs and practices. Spirituality is usually based on direct experience that is often transcendent in nature – lying beyond full comprehension and understanding. Spiritual wellness is based on having a guiding set of beliefs, values, and principles that give meaning, direction, and purpose to one’s life. Spiritual wellness encompasses faith, hope, compassion, love, forgiveness, and gratitude – all beliefs and practices that help establish peace and harmony in one’s life and align values with actions.
Things you can do to support spiritual wellness:
- Practice contemplation and meditation
- Volunteer your time in your community
- Question and explore your spiritual and religious beliefs
- Define your values and behave accordingly
- Read about and study spirituality
